Information for Residents

This page provides information and guidance for residents of Downton.  It should be read with the How to Enjoy the Fair , Ten Things You Didn’t Know about the Fair and Who Delivers the Fair web pages.

Road Closure

At the suggestion of the Wiltshire Police we request that the B road is closed through the village.  It helps ensure pedestrian safety whilst the fair is on.  The closure is from The Bull Hotel to just after the Tannery Bridge.  This is from 0830 to 1800.  Although it is hoped that if the road can be opened sooner then it will.

Please note that the Cuckoo Fair is required to maintain access for Emergency Services and so pavements must be kept free of obstructions for safe use by pedestrians in the event of evacuation, incident or for emergency vehicles to access the incident

Residents Permits

Approximately a fortnight before the Fair residents living on The Borough (from Green Lane to the A338), Green Lane, South Lane, Gravel Close to the barrier and Long Close East will receive a letter.  With it they will receive a free parking pass allowing you to park their car in one of the car parks provided by the Fair free of charge – please ensure your car is parked there before the road closure 8.30am Saturday – the car parks are open from 6.30am on Saturday.

Please let us know if you require a carer visit (including details of their name / expected time) and we will ensure that the Barford Lane/Trafalgar School car parks are aware of this so the carer can park there. They will have NO access by car to your premises as the road will be closed.
